edscout.org.uk moved to a new server edscout.vm.bytemark.co.uk on midnight starting 24 March 2004. The new server has much more disk space and ssh (secure shell) access.
There is no FTP access to this server. It is an insecure protocol which sends passwords in plain text. Use scp (secure copy, a service of ssh) instead. Windows users should try WinSCP, (WinSCP download). MacOSX users can use a terminal or Fugu. GNU/Linux users can use a terminal or type this into Konqueror: sftp://myusername@edscout.org.uk/home/myusername/.
The technically minded can log directly into the machine
using ssh. Windows users should use Putty.
MacOS and GNU/Linux users log in as ssh myusername@edscout.org.uk in a terminal.
This lets you use command line programs
e.g. passwd which allow you to change your password.
This is a User Mode Linux virtual server with 3GiB disk space and 64MiB memory from Bytemark. It runs Debian GNU/Linux of course.
Currently on the server is:
